SUPPORT CHRONOLOGY

Following is a summary of some of the many events, projects, causes, and initiatives that the Marine Corps Coordinating Council of Kentucky (MCCCK) and/or its individual members have administratively, logistically, and financially supported since its inception in 1991, as the Marine Corps Coordinating Council of Louisville: 


August 2008 - Provided financial support for Wounded Warrior Regiment/Marine For Life participation in "2008 Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom Welcome Home Event," sponsored by Louisville Veterans Affairs Medical Center, at Slugger Field, Louisville, Kentucky, honoring combat veterans and celebrating their return.

July 2008 - Provided financial assistance for basic travel expenses, enabling parents of new Marine to participate in Family Day and graduation ceremony at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina.

May 2008 - Sponsored, planned and executed "Salute to the Legends of the Corps" at Keeneland Entertainment Center, Lexington, Kentucky, for the exclusive benefit of the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, contributing $250,000 on behalf of active, reserve and veteran Marines, as well as friends of the Corps from throughout Kentucky and elsewhere.

May 2008 - Funding support of academic scholarship established by Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MCJROTC), Seneca High School, Louisville, Kentucky, in memory of LCpl Robert A. Lynch, USMC, Seneca High School, MCJROTC alumnus killed in action on July 24, 2007 in Iraq.

April 2008 - Funding support of Marine Corps League (MCL), Kentuckiana Detachment #729, Louisville, Kentucky, efforts to purchase and install MCL sign identifying American Legion Post 201 (Highlands Post) as its official monthly meeting site.

April 2008 -  Funding support of Officer Selection Office, MCRSL, sponsored and hosted Colonel "Rich" Higgins Memorial Dining-In, major officer candidate recruiting effort focusing on regional colleges and universities, to include food, beverages, and awards, primarily through individual member participation and generosity of those unable to attend.

April 2008 - Funding support of Inspector-Instructor, Company E, 4th Tank Battalion, Fort, Knox, Kentucky, participation in Hardin County School Annual Youth Physical Fitness Test, involving 140 students from various elementary schools, in which local marines officiate, grade and evaluate each event and provide awards for individuals as well as schools.

March 2008 - Funding support of the Cpl Eric Hall Fund, established to help defray expenses of family and friends participating in an extensive search in Florida, resulting in the recovery of Cpl Hall's body from a remote wooded area. Cpl Hall was a local Marine, suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, as the result of combat and resulting serious wounds received in Iraq.

January 2008 - Provided contact information for local Marine Corps officer selection office to United Sates Army officer deployed with 101st Airborne Division in Iraq, interested in career transition from Army to Marine Corps. Contact was initiated from Iraq through an Internet search and identification of the MCCCK web site.

December 2007 - Provided specific guidance and suggestions to discharged Marine seeking to acquire copy of official military service record.

December 2007 - Start-up seed funding support of Marine Corps League (MCL) Central Division Conference, hosted by MCL, Kentuckiana Detachment #729, Louisville, Kentucky, on April 24-27, 2008, at Executive West Hotel, Louisville, Kentucky. Participating delegates (150-200) represented 136 separate MCL detachments located throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky, as well as Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin. All participants were either retired or former Marines, who have remained active within the Marine Corps veterans' community in their respective states.

November 2007 - Funding support of the Lexington Area Marine Corps Birthday Ball, which serves as the primary morale function for active duty and reserve Marines assigned to the Reserve Military Police Company (Inspector and Instructor Staff) at Lexington, Kentucky, as well as Marine veterans affiliated with the Marine Corps League, Lexington, Kentucky.

November 2007 - Funding support of the Montford Point Marine Association (MPMA), Chapter #22, Louisville, Kentucky, Covington - Hagan Scholarships, awarded annually to deserving college bound African - American students, in memory of its founders John Thomas Covington (1922 - 1997) and John Warner Hagan, Jr. (1927 - 1995).

November 2007 - Funding support of the Marine Corps Recruiting Station Louisville (MCRSL) annual organizational training session focusing on the education of the public and the promotion of statewide support of officer and enlisted recruitment efforts, as well as the traditional Marine Corps Birthday Ball, Louisville, Kentucky, to include invitation and travel expenses for Guest of Honor.

November 2007 - Funding support of the Louisville Area Marine Corps Birthday Ball, which serves as the primary morale function for active duty and reserve Marines assigned to the Reserve Tank Platoon (Inspector and Instructor Staff) and the Marine Corps Armor School Detachment, both at Fort Knox, Kentucky, as well as Marine veterans affiliated with the Marine Corps League, Louisville, Kentucky.

September 2007 - Funding support of administrative and logistical costs associated with the organization, planning and conduct of an annual Toys for Tots benefit dance featuring The Monarchs, a local band of national recognition. Each year Toys for Tots, sponsored by Marine Corps League Kentuckiana Detachment #729, provides about 70,000 toys for about 19,000 needy children in the Louisville, Kentucky area during the Holiday Season.

September 2007 - Facilitated the identification of Young Marines programs within the Commonwealth of Kentucky for the Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, Jeffersontown High School, Louisville, Kentucky, for the gratis distribution of 150 serviceable, but outdated Marine Corps camouflaged utility uniforms to former, in lieu of routine disposal through Department of Defense channels.

July 2007 - Memorial tribute (flowers) at visitation and funeral of deceased active duty Marine, graduate of Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, Seneca High School, Louisville, Kentucky, following his combat related death in Diyala Province, Iraq, on behalf of his Marine Corps family in Kentucky.

July 2007 - Liaison intercession with local television news media at Louisville, Kentucky, in support of Marine Corps Inspector and Instructor Staff, Fort Knox, Kentucky, efforts to comply with request from family of deceased Marine, to produce video documentary of his airport homecoming, visitation, memorial service, and graveside funeral. Edited documentary video was privately prepared by local television news photographer, at fraction of normal professional cost, purchased by MCCCK, and provided to Marine Corps Inspector and Instructor Staff, Fort Knox, Kentucky, for presentation to family as keepsake.

May 2007 - Louisville Armed Forces Committee sponsored Annual Armed Forces Day Dinner tickets (4) provided to two (2) deserving local Marines and their spouses free of charge. Tickets purchased and donated by MCCCK member.

April 2007 - Through the initiative and facilitation of an MCCCK member, a partnership was developed between Texas Roadhouse, a Louisville, Kentucky based restaurant chain and Marine Corps Community Services, Camp Pendleton, California, resulting in the volunteer construction of twenty two (22) additional shelters, installation of three (3) sun shades over an existing cantina and stage, extension of patios for sixty six (66) existing cottages, and the installation of forty (40) additional picnic tables at Del Mar Beach, an area at Camp Pendleton used by Marine Corps personnel , as well as recovering residents of the Wounded Warrior Barracks. Special beach wheel chairs capable of withstanding salt water and sand were also acquired for use by recovering wounded Marines. Texas Roadhouse, along with its co-sponsor Coca-Cola, was also to provide materials and labor for the construction of a storage building to house items donated to residents of the Wounded Warrior Barracks. In all, the estimated cost of these goods and services was to exceed $200,000.

April 2007 - Funding support of Officer Selection Office, MCRSL, sponsored and hosted Colonel "Rich" Higgins Memorial Dining-In, major officer candidate recruiting effort focusing on regional colleges and universities, to include food, beverages, and awards.

February 2007 - Through the individual initiative of an MCCCK member, high level corporate contacts were established with a major domestic and international freight carrier, in an effort to establish post service employment opportunities for honorably discharged Marines. Initiative was coordinated with both the "Marine for Life" program and the Marine Civilian Development Program.

December 2006 - Dissemination of information concerning the combat death in Iraq of a Kentucky Marine to elements of the Marine Corps family in the Louisville, Kentucky area, resulting in a Marine Corps League, Kentuckiana Detachment #729 honor guard being present at Louisville Invitational Airport for the ceremonial return of his body to Kentucky.

November 2006 - Funding support of the MCRSL annual organizational training session focusing on the education of the public and the promotion of statewide support of officer and enlisted recruitment efforts, as well as the traditional Marine Corps Birthday Ball, Louisville, Kentucky, to include invitation and travel expenses for Guest of Honor.

November 2003 - Funding support of the MCRSL annual organizational training session and traditional Marine Corps Birthday Ball, Lexington, Kentucky, to include invitation and travel expenses for Guest of Honor.

July 2003 -   Funding support of MCRSL "Spring Recruiting Offensive," by providing travel and accommodations expenses for two (2) separate excursions (Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Cancun, Mexico) as incentives for individual outstanding recruiting efforts.

June 2003 -   Funding support of Officer Selection Office, MCRSL, sponsored and hosted Colonel "Rich" Higgins Memorial Mess Night, to include food, beverages, and awards.

May 2003 - Funding support of awards for outstanding performance of duties by Marine Corps personnel assigned to MCRSL, but based throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

May 2003 - Funding of the "Leonard Ray Stevens Korean War Memorial Scholarship" awarded to an outstanding graduate of Fort Knox High School by the Marine Corps tank Detachment, Fort Knox, Kentucky.

March 2003 - Funding support of MCRSL "Recruiter Recognition Luncheon" held at Claudia Sanders' Restaurant, Shelbyville, Kentucky.

May 2002 - Funding support of Officer Selection Office, MCRSL, sponsored and hosted the inaugural Colonel "Rich" Higgins Memorial Dining-In, major officer candidate recruiting effort focusing on regional colleges and universities, to include food, beverages, and awards.

October 2001 - Administrative, logistical, and individual membership financial support of the Marine Corps University Foundation, through the "Salute to the Legends of the Corps," a fundraising benefit event held at Keeneland Entertainment Center, Lexington, Kentucky.

November 2000 - Funding and manpower support of Marine Corps Reserve "Toys for Tots" program throughout the Louisville, Kentucky metropolitan area.

October 1999 - Administrative, logistical, and individual membership financial support of the Marine Corps University Foundation, through the "Salute to the Legends of the Corps," a fundraising benefit event held at Keeneland Entertainment Center, Lexington, Kentucky.

January 1999 - Purchase of Marine Corps Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) sword for presentation as an award to the "NCO of the Year" (Honor Graduate, Marine Corps Tank Detachment, Fort Knox, Kentucky).

April 1998 - Administrative, logistical, and individual membership financial support of the Marine Corps University Foundation, through the "Salute to the Legends of the Corps," a fundraising benefit event held at Keeneland Entertainment Center, Lexington, Kentucky.

June 1997 - Funding support of U.S. Marine Corps, Company A, 8th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division (REIN), FMF, USMCR, Marine Corps Reserve Training Center, Fort Knox, Kentucky, annual "Family Day" picnic and celebration.

June 1996 - Funding support of awards for outstanding performance of duties by Marine Corps personnel assigned to MCRSL, but based throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

May 1996 - Funding support of U.S. Marine Corps, Military Police Company, Marine Corps Reserve Training Center, Lexington, Kentucky annual "Family Day" picnic and celebration.

May 1996 - Funding support of U.S. Marine Corps, Company A, 8th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division (REIN), FMF, USMCR, Marine Corps Reserve Training Center, Fort Knox, Kentucky, annual "Family Day" picnic and celebration.

January 1996 - Funding support of MCRSL relative to rental of frame display tent and shelter for use during career fair and recruiting exposition at Louisville, Kentucky.

December 1995 - Funding support of awards for outstanding performance of duties by Marine Corps personnel assigned to MCRSL, but based throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

November 1995 - Funding support of MCRSL non-commissioned officers meeting at Louisville, Kentucky.

October 1993 - Funding support of "Red Ribbon Week" at Elizabethtown Mall, Elizabethtown, Kentucky, an anti-drug informational campaign, organized and implemented by U.S. Marine Corps, Company A, 8th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division (REIN), FMF, USMCR, Marine Corps Reserve Training Center, Fort Knox, Kentucky.

May 1993 - Funding and venue responsibility for 4th Marine Corps District reception and dinner at Pedennis Club, Louisville, Kentucky.

May 1993 - Funding for refurbishment of two (2) surplus M-14 rifles for use by MCRSL color guard during official ceremonies.

May 1993 - May 1996 - Funding support of U.S. Marine Corps, Military Police Company, Marine Corps Reserve Training Center, Lexington, Kentucky annual "Family Day" picnic and celebration.

February 1993 - Funding for Marine Corps Recruiting Station Louisville (MCRSL) reception for General Walter E. Boomer, USMC, Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps, during his visit to Louisville, Kentucky.

April 1993 -  Funding support of Officer Selection Office, MCRSL, sponsored and hosted Mess Night, major officer candidate recruiting effort focusing on regional colleges and universities, to include food, beverages, and awards.

November 1992 - Funding support for ceremonies attendant to the dedication of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Washington, DC.

August 1992 - Memorial tribute (flowers) for deceased former Marine Corps officer, on behalf of entire Marine Corps community at Louisville, Kentucky.

April 1992 - Funding support for ceremonies attendant to the commissioning of USS Ashland (LSD 48), the second U.S. navy ship to be named for Ashland, the boyhood home of Henry Clay, in Lexington, Kentucky.

November 1991 - Funding support of U.S. Marine Corps, Company A, 8th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division (REIN), FMF, USMCR, Marine Corps Reserve Training Center, Fort Knox, Kentucky, Marine Corps Birthday Ball.
